The News Forum is a Canadian English news media company which is owned by The News Forum Incorporated. The directors of the company have not been publically disclosed. The founder, Tore Stautland, is also the president of Trillennium Media Group, a company that operates and owns the News Forum. The twin companies, Trillie Media (ownership is the same), also own and operate the popular MySpace and Vevo web sites.

This company is an Internet news channel that gives its subscribers with information based on Canadian Economy, Politics, Business, Health, Education, Sports, and pop culture. Their website states that they “first and foremost” provide news to the public. They are keen to provide their customers with up to date information and discussions. Their motto is “You will not see an old horse.” In other words, they want their readers to stay current with the latest developments in industry, politics economy, as well as in pop culture. They also want Canadians to participate by providing them with relevant information.

The News Forum has become a unique hybrid of a conventional “news” media company and an information service. This is a good thing for Canadian citizens, as they have something to rely on for information, but the fact that they have had success also means they have an element of brain drain on those who are taking part. In other words, the News Forum has been successfully achieving their goals of being a source of information without having participants actually think, talk about or even gain knowledge. Unfortunately some of the weaknesses of the News Forum have been revealed.

First, Canadians have come to depend on their Information Service providers to provide them with a counterbalance to the news they see on the News Forum. In the same way, when they use the News Forum as a source of information, they are relying on the experience and knowledge of one person (the Forum administrator) to provide a counterbalance to the biased information that is offered to forum members. This means that, even though the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) has a reputation for providing fairly balanced reporting throughout the day and while the Globe and Mail newspaper often does a better job in being more even-handed than the two national news agencies, they still rely on one person (the writer) to provide an alternative to the biased information that is presented on their websites. Canadians receive more precise and varied information from their News forums than they have ever before, however they are often receiving information that is not as accurate or as detailed as they thought. It is frustrating for Canadian citizens to rely on a single source of information that for the vast part is their own government, in order to give a different perspective to the biased information presented on their government websites.

John Lindsay, the current Canadian conservative news channel Tueday TV writer, does not even mention that Hindi is his mother tongue. Even so, Mr. Lindsay purports to be proficient in speaking and understanding Punjabi and Hindi despite not being able to read or write in either of these languages. This raises the question: If the man is unable to understand or speak any of these languages, how can he present news items on Tueday the conservative Canadian news channel, that are biased and filled with inaccurate, incorrect or outdated information? Does this mean that he isn’t aware of his own history and background? It is unlikely, given his American university degree (with a 3.0 GPA on average) and 15 years of working in broadcast media in Texas.

This isn’t the only instance of a news feature discussion not having enough time or addressing its topic in a proper manner. Stephen Lewis interviewed Jennifer Paget who is a Canadian Justice reporter in the same segment. Ms. Paget uncorked a wonderful speech on women’s empowerment, including what it is to be a mother, a sister, daughter, wife or friend (and of course, a human being). But she didn’t talk about employment opportunities or the fact that many women in these same circumstances do not have a high paying job. The segment even had an exchange of words between Ms. Paget and one of the guests in the studio during which the moderator noted that Ms. Paget was often criticized for being too nice , and never blaming the various people in the interview room who she believed made comments to her about the manner she presented herself and discussed issues pertaining to employment and workplace violence.

The good side of the story has been the main focus of a large portion of the audience for news and news focus at the Canadian Broadcast Corporation. These two examples of news stories that are in-depth are just two examples of how a news forum could be able to deliver more balanced and real-time report on topics of interest to a larger audience. Additionally, these forums could provide a space in which a range of experts, personalities politicians, artists, and many other people can share their opinions and perspectives on particular issues. Canadians can benefit from both the positive and bad sides of this forum by obtaining the information they need from a single source.
